Jihad Against the Self – Imam Ibn al Qayyim

“Jihâd (striving) against the soul has four stages:

Firstly: To strive in learning guidance and the religion of truth, without which there will be no success. Indeed, there can be no true happiness, nor any delight in this world and in the Herefater, except through it.

Secondly: Striving to act upon what has been learnt, since knowledge without action will not benefit, rather it will cause harm.

Thirdly: Striving to invite others towards it and to teach those who do not know, otherwise he may be considered from those who hide what Allâh has revealed of guidance and clear explanation. Such knowledge will neither benefit, nor save a person from the punishment of Allâh.

Fourthly: Striving to be patient and persevering against those who oppose this da’wah (call) to Allâh and those who seek to cause harm – patiently bearing all these hardships for the sake of Allâh.

When these four stages are completed then such a person is considered to be amongst the Rabbâniyyûn. The Salaf were agreed that a Scholar does not deserve the title of Rabbânî until he recognises and knows the truth, acts upon it, and teaches it to others. So whosoever has knowledge, acts upon it, and teaches this knowledge to others, is considered from the Rabbâniyyûn.” [Zâdul-Ma’âd fi Hadî Khayril-’Ibâd (pp.9-11)]

Aḥmad, Muslim, and Ibn Mājah recorded a Ḥadīth from Abū Dharr who narrated that: said (صَلَّى اهللُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم)

Allah’s messenger

إِنَّ بَعْدِي مِنْ أُمَّتِي أَوْ سَيَكُونُ بَعْدِي مِنْ أُمَّتِي قَوْمٌ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ ال يُجَاوِزُ حَالقِيمَهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنْ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَخْرُجُ السَّهْمُ مِنْ الرَّمِيَّةِ ثُمَّ ال يَعُودُونَ فِيهِ هُمْ شَرُّ الْخَلْقِ وَالْخَلِيقَةِ

“There will definitely be a people after me from my nation who recite the Quran yet it will not even reach beyond their throats. They will pass through the religion as an arrow passes through a target, then they will not return back to it. They are the worst of people, the worst of all creatures.”

Ibn Mājah recorded a Ḥadīth from Ibn ‘Umar (اَمُهْنَع ُاهلل َيِضَر) that the messenger of Allah said:

(صَلَّى اهللُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم) يَنْشَأُ نَشْءٌ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ ال يُجَاوِزُ تَرَاقِيَهُمْ كُلَّمَا خَرَجَ قَرْنٌ قُطِعَ

“There will arise a group of people who will recite the Quran but it will not reach beyond their throats. Every time a new generation of them rises, they will then disappear.”

Ibn ‘Umar said, “I heard Allah’s messenger (مَّلَسَو ِهْيَلَع ُاهلل ىَّلَص) say,

‘Every time a new generation of them rises, they will then disappear,’ more than twenty times and then said: حَتَّى يَخْرُجَ فِي عِرَاضِهِمْ الدَّجَّالُ “Until the Anti-Christ finally appears among them.”

Now, while JIHAD has a monumental place in our beloved religion, it has rules. Jihad has conditions that MUST be met in order for Allah to bless it and accept it from the righteous performers of this JIHAD. Murder and mayhem against the public, Muslim & Non-Muslim alike is ABSOLUTELY AND COMPLETELY HARAM. Proponents of any calling that says otherwise are MISGUIDED AND ARE MISGUIDING OTHERS. The IDIOT STATE IN SUSPECT (ISIS) is a prime example.

The Story of a Young Man who “Allah chose” – Shaykh Muhammad Ramzaan Al-Haajiree

One more warning against the ILLEGAL KILLING OF INNOCENTS that is regularly conducted by these DEVIANTS:

The Shaykh (حفظه الله تعالى) told us a story of a young man.  He was a person who was involved in sinning.

He said: Normally when a person lives a life like this as soon as be becomes religious, if he lived previously in sin he wants to find the shortest or quickest path to Paradise.  And this individual arrived and sat in their localities.  He was their in their gatherings for 14 day.  One of the big players from them approached him and said:  ‘Ma shaa Allah, Allah has chosen you for a mission to go and blow yourself up.’

This individual said: ‘What?’

The big player said: ‘We’ll put an explosive vest and you will go in the midst of these people and blow yourself up killing the kuffar and the apostates.’

The Shaykh (حفظه الله تعالى) said:  They make takfeer for everything!

This individual said:  ‘I want Jihaad, I want to fight. I shoot them they shoot me, back and forth, we trade fire, this is what I want.  Blowing myself up…’

The response of the big player was:  ‘Allah has chosen you to be a martyr for shahadah (martyrdom)!’

This individual said: ‘I just came, 14 days.’  He then asked the big player:  ‘How long have you been in Jihaad for?’

The response of the big player was:  ‘I have been in Jihaad for 14 years, when the Americans first came in to Iraaq…’

This individual said: ’14 years and Allah hasn’t chosen you and 14 days and Allah has chosen me…’

When the leader saw the response of this young man in front of everybody. He said: ‘OK, the affair goes back to you, but we are going to consult amongst us and we will give you the final answer at Maghrib time.’

This individual he recants after he escaped from them.  He knew that the Maghrib time meant that they were going to kill him at Maghrib time.  They would say that you have apostated from Islam and kill him like this. Simple as that!

The Shaykh (حفظه الله تعالى) said:  ‘Cold blooded murder!’

The Shaykh (حفظه الله تعالى) said: ‘This young man saw them previously saw that they did this to some of the young men there.’

This individual said:  ‘I’m dead either way.  If I waited till Maghrib I’m dead. If I die on the way trying to escape, either way I am going to die!’

So he found an individual who knew somebody that he knew and this individual understood his circumstances and made easy for him an escape route.

The Shaykh (حفظه الله تعالى) said:  ‘And of course he had no paperwork, because when he came he came as a mujahid wanting Paradise so he ripped up all of his paperwork.  Once he reached the border with Turkey, there were individuals who came from the Saudi Embassy and spoke to this individual and now he is being advised…’

The Way to Strive Against the Soul – Shaykh ‘Abdullah Al-Bukhaaree

Question:

(What is) the way to strive against the soul [Inside] that is ever commanding [One] to do Evil?

Shaykh ‘Abdullah Al-Bukhaaree:

Strive against It.

And those who strive for Our sake [from the Messenger sallallaahu alaihi wa sallam, his companions, and those who followed their way], We will most certainly show them our paths. [Al-‘Ankabut 69]

Every person is such that it is a must that he strive against himself. It is well known that the Nafs al-Ammarah bi-l-Su’ [the soul inside that is ever commanding one to do evil] takes him here and there. So it is upon him to remember that Allah, Majestic and All-High, sees him and has full knowledge of him. He knows the eyes that betray trusts and that which the chests keep hidden. And that He, Majestic and All-High [is such that] nothing at all escapes Him. So it is upon him to keep bringing to his mind at all times that Allah sees him and has full knowledge of him; that he fear Him; that he repent to Allah; that he push his soul to do good, always and ever; and that he strive his utmost against it to do acts of obedience [to Allah] and make it remain upon acts of obedience.

When he hears the call [to prayer], he gets up and aims to beat others to the mosque; and he prays, if it’s the time for performing one of known routine [Sunnah prayers] or the like of that; he prays [general] voluntary [prayers]; he recites Qur’an; he is ready in the first line [of the congregation], and in this manner, he strives against his soul. And he recites the Qur’an, memorizes from it what he is able to, and shows eagerness to gain [Islamic] knowledge- he strives his utmost against his soul. If he were to tame it just a little, the soul would get tamed: It’s over, it would give in to him. But it needs to be checked on always, on an ongoing basis. Always, and on an ongoing basis.

And let him not feel secure from Allah’s long plan [that sinners enjoy for a time but finally get the punishment they deserve]. And let him not feel secure from Allah’s long plan.

We ask Allah Al-Aiim [the Exalted], Lord of the Great Throne, that He make us and you from those who listen to a speech and follow the best of it.

Refuting Ahlul-Bid’ah is considered as jihaad

While so many are willing to run off and fight supposedly “for Allah & Islam” but what about against elements within OUR OWN RELIGION??? Where is the JIHAD AGAINST THE DEVIANTS? Where is the outrage against those who reject parts of the religion they claim as their own? EXACTLY! Typically, these “Mujahideen” started as deviants also. Criminals (the attackers that were responsible for almost each attack in France (like the Charlie Hebdo attack, the night club some time later, etc), that, upon giving up their former lifestyle, a shaytaan gets their ear and fills it with perverse evil thoughts. Shayateen like ISIS, Al-Qaeda and any group that believes indiscriminately blowing up their brothers to kill the public is a good way to establish jihad (????!!!!). Yet they say NOTHING to defend their religion against DEVIANTS that wish to CHANGE it.

Question: Is the statement of one who says that: “Whoever refutes the Ahlul-Bid’ah is considered a mujaahid in the Path of Allaah” – is this statement correct or not?

Response: Yes. The one who refutes the Ahlul-Bid’ah (people of innovation) is a mujaahid, and there is no doubt about this. Since when Imaam Ahmad ibn Hanbal was told about a man who fasts, and offers salaah, and gives in charity, and performs the i’tikaaf, and does [other] good deeds, and was [then] told about a man who refutes the innovators – implying which of the two was better? He [Imaam Ahmad] said:

Whoever offers salaah and fasts and gives in charity and performs i’tikaaf, then [all of] this is for himself, and as for he who refutes the innovators, then this is for [the benefit of] the people.

So there is no doubt that whoever refutes the innovators is better, and the statements of the ‘ulamaa. regarding this are many.

The jihaad with decisive proofs

Ibn al-Qayyim said:

The jihaad with decisive proofs [from the Book and the Sunnah] and the tongue takes precedence over the jihaad with the sword and the spear.

So, remember, Jihad against one’s SELF, against the shortcomings, desires and evil thoughts & actions is what is paramount. Fight against YOURSELF before you EVER think about fighting against ANY OPPRESSOR, real or imagined. Take YOURSELF to account before YOU ARE TAKEN TO ACCOUNT!
